About to start her NQT year, Zeynab reflects on her initial teacher training.

A teacher of maths at The Totteridge Academy, Zeynab is part of the department that won a TES Award this year for ‘Maths Team of the Year’ in recognition of the way staff have transformed students’ academic outcomes through their innovative practice.

What have been your highlights from your trainee year?

I would have to say observing incredible teachers and taking on board their tips to better my own practice. Also, I’ve really enjoyed getting to know all the students both in and out of lessons.

If you could rewind back to August and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?

Always praise students, and be consistent.

What are you looking forward to next year?

I’m really looking forward to taking part in other school activities and having different responsibilities.
